Other Runs and Races

Throughout the year our club members regularly announces and participates in a number of annual runs and walks in the Bay area, usually followed by brunch at a local restaurant.  Some of these events include the following:

Bay Area Pride Runs and Walks

  • San Francisco FrontRunners Pride Event. Our sister club hosts a 10K run and a 5K run or walk in Golden Gate Park on the last Saturday in June, which is a great way to kick off San Francisco’s Pride Weekend. We go out for brunch following the run/walk and many participants stay in San Francisco to take in films at the annual LGBT Frameline film festival or enjoy other Pride Weekend events.
  • East Bay Front Runners and Walkers Pride Event. Our sister club in Oakland hosts a 10K run and 5K run or walk around Lake Meritt in Oakland in September or early October. This is a fun event that brings together FrontRunners from various clubs around the Bay area.  We go out brunch following the event and wander through Oakland’s fabulous Farmers’ Market.

Christmas Relay Run

Kick off the holiday season with the annual Christmas Relays that are held at Lake Merced in San Francisco on the second Sunday morning in December.  Runners take part in a 4-person relay team, with each runner completing a distance of 4.464 miles around Lake Merced. This is a great event to meet runners from other running clubs, including FrontRunner clubs from San Francisco and elsewhere.  We usually follow up the run with brunch at a local restaurant, often with members from other FrontRunner clubs.

Kaiser Half Marathon or 5K Run or Water Station Volunteer

The Super Bowl isn’t the only event that occurs the first weekend in February.  You can get your running off to a good start each year by joining other FrontRunners in Kaiser’s annual Half Marathon or 5K run in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.  If you aren’t quite up to running this event, you can also join us in helping members of the San Francisco Live staff a water station on the half marathon route. This is sure to give you a front row view of some very fit runners.  BLFR members running in the event or helping at the water station car pool up to the weekend event and meet up with some of the San Francisco Frontrunners for a brunch afterwards.
